FSL Showcase Storylines March 3rd

12U Langley Leafs

Comeback Kids

Langley skated into their Play-In series with Cowichan Valley and found themselves on the wrong side of a 6-1 game to open things.

However, their resolve kicked in during game two, where they were nearly perfect with a 3-0 victory. Langley peppered Cowichan Valley with 14 shots in the first and 20 more in the second, where they scored all three goals from three different goal scorers. Mykelti Field took care of things in the crease with nine third-period saves and 23 overall for the shutout, forcing game three of the Play-In.

Sunday for all the marbles was another defensive battle, with Langley pulling away in the second on Mia Sandhu’s second goal in as many games. Field stopped 25 of 26, and the Leafs held on for a 2-1 victory, punching their ticket to round one.

Langley now faces the Vancouver Aeros.

14U Phantoms Female Hockey

Shootout Sweep

The prairie battle between Phantoms Female Hockey and the Manitoba Mavericks was very close for a two-game sweep.

The Phantoms of Saskatoon took game one thanks to the quickest of starts. Like an apparition, Elianna Holovach struck 56 seconds into the series, and Natalie Evans lit the lamp one more time before the end of the first period. Ellaina Young did the rest with 28 saves in a 3-1 victory to lead the series 1-0.

Things were even tighter in game two, which went to a shootout after Manitoba captain Scarlet Tourangeau tied the game with less than 20 seconds left, her hat-trick goal. However, the Phantoms would recover and win in the showdown to advance.

They will now meet the Jr. Rustlers.

14U Langley Leafs

Bend But Don’t Break

The Langley Leafs watched their goaltender put on a clinic in game one versus Victoria Hockey Academy.

Makan Mitchell kicked out 42 of 43 shots, including 22 in the second period alone, for the Leafs, who tied the game on an Olivia Bath goal. Mazie Sayeed sealed the deal with a goal with just over one minute remaining for a 1-0 series lead.

Game two was even closer as Langley needed a shootout victory after Nahla Martiniuk tied the game late for Victoria in the third period.

The Leafs now move on to round one versus the Vancouver Aeros.

16U Aurora HC

Taking Care of Business

After a regular season where they averaged 2.5 goals per game, Aurora HC busted out for 11 goals in two victories in the Play-Ins versus cross-town rival Angels Pro Hockey.

Friday night, Katie Mears led the way with a goal and two helpers as Aurora skated to a 5-1 win, firing 40 shots on goal.

Saturday night, Abigail Lavery stood on her head with 42 saves on 43 shots in a 6-1 victory. Leah Shipton had the hat-trick for Aurora while Charlee Donovan notched four points.

They will now hit the ice with the Jr. Ooks in round one.
