12U Jr. Ooks
First-half, first place
The pacesetters of the 12U division heading into the Alpine Cup presented by Pro Hockey Life are the Jr. Ooks.
The Edmonton, AB, AB-based squad collected three wins and lost by a goal scored with seven seconds remaining against the Glaciers from Calgary last weekend.
In the three victories, they scored 19 goals and gave up just six goals. They trailed only once on the weekend, for eleven minutes and forty seconds, in a game they exploded for eight unanswered goals to win.
The Jr. Ooks now sit four points ahead of the Vancouver Aeros for first place. They have scored a division-high 165 goals.
12U Angels Pro Hockey
Alexis on fire
Watching their goaltender kick out shot after shot inspired Angels Pro Hockey to get Alexis Chenoweth the win.
After 19 saves on 20 shots through two periods of tied hockey, the goaltender denied 15 go-ahead goal attempts in the final frame.
In total, she made 34 saves, and Amy Verge scored the GWG unassisted in the third period for a 2-1 vs Bow Valley.
Chenoweth is having a ridiculously good season with the 6-14-0-2 Angels, with a 5-5 record, a 2.97 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage in 12 games played.
16U Jr. Ooks
Perfect weekend
The Ooks have charged their way to the top four of the 16U division with a perfect 3-0 weekend.
They are now 7-1 in their last eight games and sit third in the division at 11-6-0-1, one point up on fourth and three points back of second place. They have played the most games in the division.
The Jr. Ooks started the weekend with a 6-1 win over Aurora, followed by a 5-1 victory against Angels Pro Hockey and wrapped the weekend with a hard-fought 4-3 Sunday night win in a rematch with Aurora.
Only once did an Ooks skater have more than one goal, showing contributions coming from across the roster in each game as they racked up 15 goals in three games.
